CJM Nov Teen Mixer

The event was definitely an interesting experience. I didn't get to stay for the after party but what I did like from what I saw was how well planned it seem. I also thought it was generous of all these musems to work together for our benefit. I had no idea how many teens in SF work at museums and that so many offer intership programs for high school students. Hopefully next year people interact more and take advantage of the opportunity to meet other teens with the same interests and job experience as them.

CJM teen mixer

On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break, there was a party/mixer at CJM. I thought it was really nice of them to host the party and give us the chance to meet interns from other museums. The fashion show was a cool idea, but i wish we had more time for it.

The pizza was, of course, an important part of the mixer. I accidentally added too much red pepper on my slice and was literally sweating while eating. This was pretty exciting and we got a laugh out of it.

But what I thought was the best part were the activities during the party. The first exposure pictures looked really cool, but what caught my eye was the ping pong table. I haven't played ping pong in years and since I had the chance, I took it. I sucked, but it was really fun.

The Arnold Newman pictures were interesting as well, though photography isn't really my thing. My favorite one was this one, though I forgot the name.

I just liked the concept of a 3D object going back to a 2D object.

CJM Party

Hello! We attended a museum intern gathering/party/mixer few weeks back and it was so much fun! We got to talk to to other teens and do fun activities! There was a black and white photo booth, fun music, food, and more! The new photography exhibit, "Arnold Newman: Masterclass" was pretty cool too. There is so much depth in black and white photography and the two colored tones creates a unique look. My favorite part of the party was doing activities with the other museum interns. With a random bag of materials, we dressed models and presented them at a fashion walk. It was fun talking and putting our heads together to create something. Each group had a different style and approach to their model's outfit.  Even though each group had very similar materials,  that was what made each group's creation unique. Alike art, each piece is different but share similar features.

Here are some photos from the party!

CJM Mixer

The CJM Mixer was really fun especially since I never really been to a mixer but I believe the bonding activities could've been better. For example, the bingo game, it got a bit confusing for me in a way where it made me question whether or not this museum really had this and of course I had no way of actually checking until the answers were given. Some of the intern just said that their museum had this when the answer was totally different. As for the fashion show activity, I just feel that it didn't work out that great, I don't know why. Overall, having the chance to see some of the interns from other museums located in San Francisco was a great experience.

My favorite piece of the Arnold Newman's exhibition was a piece called Gore Vidal. It's very self-centered and the black and white part just made that aspect pop out even more. It really show the confidence of this person, and I love it.

Holiday Fun!

Hello! We are creating art activities inspired by the holiday season for museum visitors! I am currently working on a picture frame project. This is a simple and fun way to create your own picture and give it as a gift. I love how this is very open ended and everyone can be super creative. For this activity, visitors can choose something in the museum's collection that they like or use their imagination to make the picture. Then, they can slip it through a frame an they have a picture frame with their very own picture! How cool is that?

There will be some photos up soon!

So this last month has been a whirl wind of stuff to do! We've had two different tours of roads of arabia from an archeology grad  student and the curator for the asian arts specific exhibit Donnie and it's all been so great. But right now we're working on holiday project ideas and right now my top one is this project I don't have a name for yet. But basically what it is is taking colored plastic sheets and drawing some sort of holiday scene/character/symbol or whatever a person might want on them then gluing them to paper frames so they could be put up on windows as cool light box type of things. I don't know, everything is still in the works. Let's see what we come up with later on!

Holiday Idea

So I was thinking that plain old holiday gram/cards would work with just a bit of added touch ups like gluing on some origami decorations or do some paper maches on the card based on the person's preferences and liking. Also, since these projects take place in the Asian Art Museum, I was thinking maybe we can do some of the touch ups based on what people can find/like within the museum so it's like a holiday + museum fusion.

I am currently still trying to think of other ideas.

Holiday Ideas

Hey guys! So I was thinking of some projects that we could facilitate that would be easy to make, but at the same time, meaningful.

I was thinking of maybe writing a letter/message on a piece of paper w/ decorations on it. Then we fold that same paper into a heart because I think the heart is a universal symbol and can be used for any occasion. The folding might be too hard, but we'll see what we can do.

Another project is to make a paper box, decorate it, and then put a special message inside so when the receiver opens it, they will be in for a surprise.

Now, this project may be Christmas specific. I was thinking of getting styrofoam balls and decorating them with paint, markers, paper, fabric scraps, etc. The little styrofoam balls could be used as Christmas ornaments, or maybe as a little figurine/ desk decoration or something similar. For the New Year, I want to be able to write a wish for the new year and hang it on a wall of some sort. We could decorate the paper and use yarn or thread the hang the message. People could initial it if they do not want to put their full name.

I want it to look like this for the New Year project with the wishes all hanging. Well, that's all for now. I look forward to seeing how things will turn out!

Holiday Art Activity Ideas!

Hello! The holidays are coming soon. In preparation for the holidays, we interns are putting our thinking caps on and brainstorming fun art activities for museum visitors!

So far I have thought about ornaments as a fun art activity. We could use popsicle sticks and glue them together to create different shapes, decorate them and attach a ribbon to the back for a hanger. This would be easy for visitor to understand if we provided diagrams and instructions. I've also thought about cards since they are very self-guided to do and who doesn't love receiving a handmade card. I am still brainstorming more ideas but I'm off to a good start.
